🎄 ETANA Family! 🥋
As the year winds down and the holiday season approaches, it's time for our annual break! This is a well-deserved opportunity to recharge, spend time with loved ones, and reflect on the progress we've made this year.
We will be taking a break from regular classes starting as referenced in previous emails.
🌟 Keep Your Practice Progressing During the Break
While the structured class environment is paused, your personal training doesn't have to be! A break is actually a perfect time to solidify your foundation and focus on personal refinement.
Here are a few ways to keep the FMA spirit alive and progressing over the holidays:
1. Focus on Footwork (The Engine): Footwork is the most crucial, yet often overlooked, component. Spend 10-15 minutes a day just moving. Practice your triangles, boxes, and lateral steps slowly and precisely. Focus on maintaining a stable, balanced base.
2. Solo Forms/Drills (Muscle Memory): Pick one or two empty hand or single stick forms/drills (like Sayaw, Serrada, or a favorite Heaven & Earth flow) and execute them. Do it in front of a mirror if possible to check your structure, chambering, and extension. Repetition creates resilience.
3. Review the Principles (Mindset): Look back at your training notes. Choose a few core concepts—like defanging the snake, live hand usage, or entering—and think about how they apply to the material you already know.
4. Gentle Stretching & Conditioning: Use this time to address any minor stiffness or tightness. Mobility work for your shoulders, hips, and knees will make your return to training smoother and less injury-prone.
Challenge: Pick one fundamental technique you struggled with this year (e.g., a specific disarm, a counter-attack) and commit to practicing it five times a day.
🎁 How to Enjoy the Christmas Break
Remember that the Filipino Martial Arts tradition is not just about physical technique; it's about discipline, respect, and community. The holidays are a perfect time to embody these principles:
Connect with Family: Take the time to truly connect with your loved ones. Share meals, traditions, and stories. The respect and focus we learn in the dojo can strengthen our relationships at home.
Rest and Recovery: Give your body the full rest it needs. Adequate sleep and good nutrition are just as vital to a martial artist's performance as any drill.
Embrace the Spirit of Giving (Bayanihan): Look for opportunities to help others in your community. The martial path is a path of service and strength used for good.
Wishing you all a safe, restful, and joyous holiday season! Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon (Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year)!
We can't wait to see you back on the mats in the New Year, ready to hit the ground running!
In the Spirit of ETANA,
